Marina di Bibbona
Marina di Bibbona has become a well-known seaside resort thanks to its wide, fine-sand beaches, the typical dune ridges cloaked in Mediterranean scrub, and its distinctive dunes. It is also called Marina del Forte, a reference to the Forte di Bibbona, built in 1785 as a lookout and coastal defense against pirate incursions. Today the fort hosts exhibitions and various events.
Within the beautiful pine forest, heading north, there is an easy route suitable for everyone—even families with small children—which crosses the Cecina Tomboli Nature Reserve and leads to Cecina Mare. The entire path runs along the sea, with numerous turn-offs down to the beach. Heading south, the pinewood includes part of the Bolgheri Oasis, the first WWF sanctuary in Italy, a refuge of international importance for migratory birds, open to visitors during certain times of the year. The true jewel of Marina di Bibbona is its two pine forests, perfect for walks on foot, by bike, or on horseback. The beaches are partly equipped with bathing establishments and partly free, with six daily lifeguard points. A section of the free beaches is reserved for four-legged friends. The Blue Flag and the Vele awards from Legambiente attest to the municipality’s strong commitment to protecting and respecting the environment.
